Lately I’ve become very obsessed with the idea of parade float destruction. This is part and parcel of a much larger project I’m getting started working on that involves wasteful spending and pride parade organizing. I’m really interested in the actual materials of parade floats and their really brief lifespan.
Anyhow, while researching parade floats it occurred to be that there are very few images online (or at least in quick Google searches) of parade floats being destroyed. That is until I came across this clip from the show Dirty Jobs that has every-working-class-in-drag-man Mike Rowe destroying floats that appeared in the Rose Bowl parade. It’s a great watch, and has really got my wheels spinning….
